Duong Lam ancient village has become a rising tourist attraction for Vietnamese and international visitors looking for a day trip to rural Vietnam and escape from the bustle and hustle of Hanoi Old Quarter. At Duong Lam, you can try out lots of snacks, local food in Duong Lam that you never try before.
As a DIY traveller, it’s hard to find a good cafes or restaurants in Duong Lam since there is limited choices for restaurants with tourist standard in Duong Lam. That’s why I wrote a complete food guide about where to eat in Duong Lam for DIY visitors.
One of the top-rated cafe in Duong Lam in my own opinion, Ca Phe Lang (see on the map here) is designed in an eco-friendly way with lots of bonsais and plants, which makes you feel closer to nature, also a village-friendly design that makes you feel like home here.
My favorite cafe in Duong Lam. Everytime I am here, I definitely order a drink and chill out at this lovely cafe a combination of everything : Elegant, eco-friendly, historic and cozy. If you are a big fan of photos, Chiko cafe will be on the top list for the places to relax and chill out in Duong Lam.
Chiko cafe serves drinks, snacks, and junk food for kids.
I find it hard to pick one of the good restaurants for lunch meal since there are no reviews on Trip Advisor to look up. Here is a list of restaurants in Duong Lam village
Mr Hung’s house
A common lunch spot for Vietnamese visitors and guided tours of foreign visitors because travel agents and tour guides usually make a reservation for lunch in his home. It’s the oldest house in Duong Lam village, over 400 years old, a farmer-based working class.
Mr Huyen’s house
I have to say it’s a really pretty house with plants, flowers and bonsais, a common spot for wedding photos. The owner, Mr Huyen, is a journalist and his wife, Mrs Vuot, is a former primary teacher. She is a great cook. My favorite food is Cha La Lot (Vietnamese grilled pork wrapped in betel leaves).
Please note that they only offer lunch meals for guided tour visitors, not DIY travelers
Other local families that serves lunch for guided tour visitors
A set menu of these eating places above is around $10 to $12 per person with 05 courses.
Tam Vung house is located on the other side of the fish pond, which is on the right-hand side of the Mong Phu ancient gate. My top choice is Ca Kho (Vietnamese Caramelized fish) and Ga Mia (Mia chicken)
Bep Lang Duong Lam : Highly recommended for those who want to enjoy authentic Vietnamese food.
Com que Hai Loi : A place for cheap Vietnamese food at a affordable cost. I recommend trying the Vietnamese pork skewers.
Quan Com Hung Hanh : Just another place for casual Vietnamese food at a good price. English menu is available. I recommend trying Bun Cha, Ca Kho, Grilled chicken and Stir-fried vegetables with garlic.
