Day 1: Hanoi – Van Don – Bai Tu Long Bay – Quan Lan Island (Lunch) 

Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel by car to the shuttle bus office, where you will wait for 20 minutes and then take a 3-hour journey on a local limousine (Shared with others) in Hanoi. The journey consists of three 3-hour drives along the Expressway Hanoi – Hai Phong – Quang Ninh to reach Van Don.  (halfway break for the washroom) 

Show your original passports and visas to the border police, and check in on the cruise.

Board a traditional junk to explore the magnificent Bai Tu Long, a short cruise to a deserted island, and hike step by step to reach its summit to see a panoramic view of the bay. After that, back to the cruise and cruise amongst amazing rock formations dating back 500 million years, passing floating houses, local oyster farms, and towering limestone cliffs.

Stop at a local fish farm to paddle a SUP around the farm, surrounded by limestone mountains, floating houses, oyster farms and more.

Take a short cruise to a nearby, untouched island. You might be the only travellers on the island. Enjoy a cool breeze on an easy rider to explore this island to see the rustic beauty of local houses, rice fields (maybe no rice plants, depending on the season)  and trees along the way

Back to the boat to have lunch onboard (late lunch) 

Admire the stunning beauty of Bai Tu Long from the sundeck while cruising for a further 2 hours to Quan Lan Island.

Pick up by an electric buggy car to your accommodation on an island.

Note: If you would like to swim on the beach. We will arrange a 10-minute walk to Quan Lan beach

 

Dinner in at the motel  and spend the night on Quan Lan Island

Day 2 : Quan Lan Island discovery (Lunch)

Breakfast with local food at the motel or nearby local eatery. 

9.30 am: Leaving the hotel for an electric buggy to visit some of the viewpoints (see another scenic spot called Wind Strait ) and the local temple on the island. Back to the guest houses for lunch and taking a rest

Take an electric buggy or motorbike ride (on your own) to the other side of the island to see Minh Chau beach, walking through the Tram forests with 100-year-old trees, and see another beach along the way.

Back to Dong Nam village, we conclude the day around 3 pm

Optional walk

The Quan Lan community house, dedicated to a village god, Military General Tran Khanh Du, who played a major role in the defeat of Mongolian invaders, is also worshipped by the villagers.

Visit a local family that owns a vegetable garden

Day 3 : Quan Lan island

Optional: For early birds, check out the local fish market with a variety of seafood (You can do it on your own)

After breakfast, 

There are 2 options to choose from :

Option 1 : 

Early checkout and leave the island for 7am speed boat ride to the mainland.
8.30pm Disembark Cai Rong port. Take a shuttle bus for 4 hours and 30 minutes drive (including 3 hours 20 minutes to the bus office, another 30 minutes car ride to your hotel) 

We arrive in Hanoi at 1 pm. Tour ends

Option 2 : 

9am : Take a short, easier ride along the dyke of QUan Lan and back to the guest house. Check out, having an early lunch. Head to the pier for the 12:30 pm speedboat to Cai Rong port. Arrive at the port around 2 pm.

Take a shuttle bus for 4 4-hour and 30-minute drive (including 3 hours 20 minutes to the bus office, another 30 minutes car ride to your hotel) 

We arrive at Hanoi around 6.30 pm to 7 pm. Tour ends

Frequently asked questions 

Can we start the trip from Halong, Haiphong or Ninh Binh?

Yes, you can. Usually, we will arrange a private transfer that picks you up from your accommodation and drive to Van Don where the cruise docks. 

Travelling duration by car

Hanoi to Van Don: a 3.5-hour drive by car, including a stopover, or a 4-hour and 30-minute drive by shuttle limousine bus, also including a stopover. 

Ninh Binh to Van Don : 4 hours 45 minutes drive including stopover

Haiphong to Van Don : 2 hours drive

Halong to Van Don : 1 hours and 20 minutes drive

How is the accommodation like in Quan Lan island?

We offer homestays or motels which is basic accommodation with Western style washroom. 

Hard beds: This might be an issue you encounter when staying in an accommodation in Vietnam. Vietnamese people usually sleep on a hard mattress. 

There is an option of a Western-style resort or hotel that costs from 100 USD above. 

Breakfast: It would be a basic breakfast with toast, an omelette, a pancake, and a banana. There is an option of a Vietnamese rice noodle soup. 

Shower : The homestay or hotel provides you witha  hot water running shower

Do you offer a group tour?

Since it’s an off-the-beaten-track tour, there is no shared group tour for this option. You may consider taking a private tour but with shared transfer from Hanoi to save your costs

How to get around Quan Lan Island?

Motorbike, electric buggy. Push bikes should be pre-ordered because during the low season from September to April, they are stored, so they may not work properly. We always need to contact them in advance to prepare the best one possible to serve you. 

If not, be happy to take an electric buggy ride instead. 

What are the foods served during the tour?

Seafood, seafood and seafood. Quan Lan is an island that is surrounded by seawater, so seafood is the main dish. On the other hand, you can also eat meats such as pork, beef, chicken and vegetables. Vegetarian food is available, featuring tofu, eggs, beans, and a variety of vegetables. 

Can we swim on the beach?

Of course, you can. Nov to Feb. The water temperature can be cold from 15 to 22 degrees Celsius, so the weather can be cold.

Can we do just Quan Lan?

If you don’t want to travel from one place to the other, 2 nights on Quan Lan island can be a better choice instead of staying one night in Quan Lan and one night in Ngoc Vung island.

Can we extend your trip?

You are welcome to extend your stay and take a longer tour, perhaps for 3 nights or 4 nights, or consider visiting the nearby Ngoc Vung island. Please let us know in advance to arrange the best possible itinerary
