This is one of the most common Halong day cruise tours for shore excursion passengers since it's short and perfect for those who want to see the best Halong Bay offers.

I must tell you; the actual tour is only 3 hours, not 4 hours like many advertisements on the internet. They only take you to Thien Cung (Heavenly Palace cave), passing by famous islets like Incense burner islet, Fighting cock islet, Stone Dog islet 

Some cruises may include visiting a floating village (it is like a tourist attraction) to do either kayaking or a bamboo boat ride for half an hour. So it may take three hours and a half in total. 

The actual cruise lasts from an hour and a half to two hours. The rest of the time is for the activities

Please note that there is a huge crowd in the front of the cave, you need to queue up in line and get stuck at the entrance for 20 to 30 minutes

2.6 hours Halong Bay day tours on a wooden junk boat

This is the best option who want to see the complete Halong Bay with pretty much the same itinerary for visitors who take 2 day 1 night cruise (you won't get night activities like a cooking demonstration, squid fishing, sunset party)

From my personal experience, you rarely see tourists in Hai Phong, unless you go to the AEON mall since there are businessman, expats living in Hai Phong, and very few tourists.

This is a tour option for those who don't want to drive a long distance in the car, just want to feel what is a city in Vietnam is like. 

Honestly, the top things to do in Halong is hiking Poem mountain with an awesome view to Halong bay from above. The view is absolutely amazing I have to stay. But it is shut down by the government. So we do not include the mountain in any of our tours. There is a secret entrance from locals that you see some articles on the internet, but we won't offer it for your safety. 

7. Yen Duc village tour from Halong

You have seen a lots of tours that mentioned about the village but it isn't authentic village. It is more likely a tourist attractions that run by Indochina junk, a stopover to explore Vietnam country and see water puppet show for guests from Indochina Junk. I've been there once but a long time ago.

My friend run a homestay in Dong Trieu but he only accept guests with overnight stay in his homestay as he wants to keep it authentic with ZERO TOURIST so he doesn't want to make it too commercial. 

8. Yen Tu pagoda complex

If you don't wish a too touristy spot but love nature, hiking and the outdoor. Yen Tu pagoda complex is the right choice. 

Yen Tu papoda is 1 hour and 10 minutes drive from Halong, the place where king Tran Nhan Tong left the throne for his son and moved to Yen Tu mountain to practise Zen Buddism and found the Trúc Lâm Zen School followed Vietnamese characteristics that exists until the present day.”

Yen Tu Papoda is a great place to learn about Vietnam Buddism in-depth and ancient pagoda's architecture. A place to hike, take a cable car ride and enjoy great view from the submit of the Yen Tu mountain.

Pro tips

 I don't recommend travelling to Yen Tu from late Jan to late March since it is the Spring time in Vietnam where Vietnamese travel a lot to pagodas and temples to pray for good luck for the new year. Weekends can be a nightmare.

9. Halong countryside tour (ZERO TOURIST)
