How to get to Ninh Binh from Cat Ba Island?
3 companies offer buses to Ninh Binh: Cat Ba Express, The Long Bus, and Cat Ba Discovery. It costs around $15 USD, including ferry/speed boat, bus. They offer pick-up from hotels in Cat Ba, drop-off in Tam Coc (Ninh Binh)

Can I choose to stay in Cat Ba town instead of the junk boat?
Not everyone likes staying overnight on board. You can spend the night on Cat Ba Island, and you can also find accommodation from standard to luxury accommodations in Cat Ba Island.

Can I include trekking the national park for the overnight trip?
There are 2 trekking routes in Cat Ba National Park
Route 1: Ngu Lam peak, a 3-hour hike back and forth.
Route 2 : Longer trekking route. You'll trek in through the national park, following Frog Lake to Viet Hai village, the longest trekking route in the park. After the tour, you can choose either a floating house in Viet Hai, a floating house in Lan Ha Bay or on a hotel in Cat Ba island

Is Cat Ba island and Lan Ha bay family-friendly trip?
Yes, it is. Fun, educational and great outdoor activities, but trekking through the national park is not recommended for families with kids.
Why are Lan Ha Bay tours higher than Halong Bay?

Travelling on freeways but comfortable with high toll fees
Hiring a boat in Lan Ha Bay with fewer choices, we often pay 40% extra for boat services than in Halong Bay!

Is this tour budget-friendly for backpackers?
No, it isn't. The tour starts and finishes in Hanoi, so we need to pay lots of expenses from food, accommodation, transfer, and entrance fee. You can take a shared bus which costs 15 USD each way.  Backpackers are recommended to go to Cat Ba island and travel around on their own which is cheaper.
