This Hanoi agricultural study tour will take you off-the-beaten-path to rural farming villages only a 45 minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi’s Old Quarter. We are strongly committed to a tour that is outside the typical tourist path.
During the tour you will experience many aspects of the diverse and innovative agriculture that is practiced in Vietnam, including visits to rice paddies, vegetable farms, as well as a farm practicing a highly integrated permaculture method particular to Vietnam, VAC model farm (V for vuon (garden), A for ao (pond), and C for chuong (livestock pen).
We hope to highlight the diversity of local crops, production methods, and important diseases and insect pests in addition to the environmental challenges and opportunities faced by small-scale farmers throughout Vietnam. Participants will take part in question-and-answer sessions (interpreter-led) with a variety of farmers: rice, vegetable, livestock, and fruit.
The Hanoi Agricultural Study Tour is geared towards agricultural professionals, faculty and students who hope to expand their knowledge of farming in this rapidly growing society that faces significant environmental hurdles. The tour will focus on climate change, its implications for food systems, and local adaptations and mitigations.
