Pu Luong is known as the beaten-track destination for trekking in Vietnam, an alternative to touristy Sapa. A great place to do trekking in nature. This article is about Pu Luong trekking routes for those who planned on a guided tour or independent travelers.
I do recommend trekking Pu Luong during the rice harvest season between May and June and between September to October.
To me, anytime from September to May. If you are traveling during the summertime from May to August, it is hot trekking so you had better start early like 7 am finish the trip by noon, and rest in the afternoon, Cool off at a pool at your place.
Of course, it also depends on the weather each day. So make sure that you check the weather forecast a week or 3 days before the departure date.
These are the most common trekking routes in Pu Luong Nature Reserve.
Don village to Hieu village
Duration: 4 hours
Distance: 12 kilometers
Level : Medium
This is a common trekking route for those who stay in Don village, Pu Luong. Start from Pu Luong Reatreat and trek downhill to the heart of Don village and follow the small trail to go up hill and half way is the flat road from villages to village.
Pho Doan to Hieu village
Duration: 2 hours
Distance: 6 kilometers
Level: easy
This route is suitable for those who are seniors with easy flat roads. You should combine your visit at Pho Doan market on Sunday. Lots of things to see since this is the market day when ethnic people from nearby villages get together.
Don village to Bang village
Duration: 1.5 hours
Distance: 5 kilometers
Level: easy
This is a nice trekking route where you can trek among rice paddy fields, the route is easy enough even for seniors, it’s flat and easy to walk
I was trekking to the peak of Pu Luong: 1700 meters above sea level.
Duration: 5-6 hours
Level: hard
This is the most challenging trekking route since you are hiking uphill to reach its summit. This trekking route is only for those who like adventure travel and have good health.
You are trekking through jungles, passing rocky slopes.
There is an option of spending the night on the peak and watching the sunrise the next morning.
Trekking Hang village to Eo Ken, Kho Muong
This 4-hour trekking route has a total length of 8 kilometers of awe-inspiring mountain landscapes, and lush green terraced paddy fields and you can also see bamboo forest along the way.
This trekking route is recommended for those who want to travel off the beaten track on a guided tour.
