Most local bus companies only offer to pick up and drop off outside Hanoi’s Old Quarter. There is an extra cost applied for pick up and drop off services around the Old Quarter of Hanoi

Where to take a local bus from Hanoi to Ninh Binh

Giap Bat bus terminal, which is 7 kilometers from the Old Quarter of Hanoi

I recommend taking any bus to Thanh Hoa and asking them to drop off at Bung Binh Tam Coc (Tam Coc roundabout) if you are staying in Tam Coc, only 2 kilometers from Tam Coc.

I personally don’t recommend this option since you have to take a taxi from the Old Quarter to the bus terminal and another taxi ride from Tam Coc roundabout to your accommodation in Ninh Binh. At the end of the day, the expenses is higher than taking a tourist-friendly bus from Hanoi Old Town

I only recommend this option for experienced rider since the road contion is good but lots of traffics This route is recommended for experienced riders.

Route : From Hanoi Old Quarter, drive pass Giat Bat bus terminal, then onto old National road number 1, when we get to Dong Van town, keep going until you see Gian Khau bridge, turn left, keep going until you see Tam Coc roundabout, turn left and keep riding 2 more kilometers you will reach Tam Coc
